The Unfaithful starts off strong and immediately provides the reader with an intense and gut-wrenching opening. You can't help but root for our hero, Adam, as he sets out to make things right. Alex Bloodworth leads us through an edge-of-your -seat ride from beginning to end. The only thing we are left with is when can we read more about Adam and his quest for justice and revenge...Suspense Magazine
The Unfaithful is a complex book of tightly woven characters and plot. Alex Bloodworth keeps with his traditional flavor of mixing politics, police work, and the arcane together...[He} jams in nonstop action and suspense, with periodic breathers that give the characters an opportunity to identify key issues to propel them further along. The Unfaithful is a dark thriller with little regard for preaching religion. The title may reflect a religious undertone, but it hardly materializes to justify touting values or morals. Bloodworth's use of God and faith is strictly as a prop, with an almost blaspemous edge to it. Like The Serpent and the Saul, it poses a daring outlook on God versus the devil, where maybe both are more alike than people think...Bart Costas
Alex Bloodworth writes one helluva frightening but entertaining book. He spins this tale into a twist of betrayal, personal vengeance, and emerging allegiances. It's range of characters is superb. There's the somewhat flighty damsel in distress, her cosmopolitan boyfriend who spirals down into madness, a presumptive and officious cop, and a downright scary diabolical fiend. The fringe characters are also well-fleshed out, giving them power and purpose. The Unfaithful uses religion as a tool in this story only. There's no moral urgency imposed with it. What Bloodworth did with politics in The Serpent and the Saul, he did with faith here. It was a building block to work on, and that's all...Bob Mantoock
EVEN GOD CAN MAKE MISTAKES
If a man’s destiny has been etched in stone, imagine God’s chagrin when something unexpected and outside the realm of His control rewrites it. That’s just what happens when hockey defenseman, Adam Mogilvy, is called back from a road trip because of a phone call telling him that his infant daughter is terribly ill. His unexpected arrival at home changes the course of fate and begins an epic story far beyond the battle of good and evil.
At the core of this first volume of what promises to be an ever unveiling series of religious mythos, a business tycoon blackmails the frontrunner mayoral candidate for a large metropolitan city. At the same time, a young pregnant woman finds herself on the run in order to keep powerful forces from ripping the budding life from her womb. And a Homicide detective tries to solve the murder of one insignificant victim. These three events are interconnected with a clever twist of political subterfuge, back alley treachery, and a frightening brew of evil and startling cosmic forces.
Alex Bloodworth writes a fast-paced narrative with no holds barred. This thriller has a supernatural bent to it, much as his first novel, The Serpent and the Saul, does. But Bloodworth deviates just slightly from his signature political-legal storytelling in The Unfaithful in that he centralizes the conflict to one major metropolitan area. Having boxed himself in within this city, he still turns the place on its ear with his vividly descriptive narrative of ruthless businessmen, desperate politicians, and hidden monsters lurking in the shadows of the night.
Bloodworth’s imaginative style takes readers into a film noir-esque world rife with dark tones and imagery. Savvy readers might be able to deduce the real location of this book through carefully placed references of history and landmarks, which was Bloodworth’s intention all along. His complex twist of plot cleverly intertwines characters into a tightly meshed story where readers are hard pressed to predict the direction this book takes them. It gives the impression of P.T. Barnum leading enthralled guests through a cabinet of curiosities, with a curtain drawn on each exhibit for its own ceremonial presentation.
